The smell of sunshine.

Unedited

Maybe winter isn’t a good season to date. Du Huai’an looked at the vast expanse of whiteness outside of the window, pondering over where they should go so that the young master could have fun yet not feel cold. The corner of his jacket was then tugged by someone.

Bai Zhi held some discarded discs, and very carefully opened his mouth.

“I, can I take a look at your discs?”

Du Huai’an immediately nodded in agreement, and then he glanced at the stuff Bai Zhi was holding. In a split second, he froze all over.

……Wait a minute, isn’t this stuff for his two-year-old little niece to watch?

What does Jiang Jiu mean?

Du Huai’an quickly thought about it: No, his purpose definitely isn’t to watch these childish discs, his purpose is definitely to……

A thought had rapidly flashed through Du Huai’an’s mind, his eyes immediately lit up.

It was obvious.

Jiang Jiu did it in order to stay at his home.

Du Huai’an felt that he had seen through Bai Zhi’s thoughts. He coughed a few times, he might as well beat him at his own game.

“I’m honoured the young master likes it.”

He immediately turned on the TV, and shoved the discs into the player. At the same time, he glanced at the excited Bai Zhi who was sitting on the sofa.

Look, he looks so excited, he must be secretly happy that he could stay at my house for an even longer time.

Du Huai’an poured a cup of tea for Bai Zhi. He turned and took a book then entered the balcony, still calculating in his mind.

There’s absolutely no way Jiang Jiu would last very long with that kind of disc, surely, he’s gonna ask him to bring him out.

The TV screen changed and changed, and the water in Du Huai’an’s glass had gradually reached the bottom. As time passed by, and another page of the book was turned, Du Huai’an was unable to bear it and he secretly looked inside the room.

Bai Zhi sat on the sofa in a good manner, the corner of his mouth holding a smile, as if he had met something he could particularly be happy about. Du Huai’an continued looking at him, and he suddenly saw the man turn his head, both of his eyes came into direct contact with his own.

Before Du Huai’an could react, Bai Zhi had suddenly smiled, showing two tiny dimples.

A certain someone who was peeking in had a trembling hand and immediately knocked over his glass.

Bai Zhi, who had seen the entire process, panicked and hurriedly ran over. But Du Huai’an had already put the glass away, and with a calm expression, he spoke.

“I just accidentally shook my hand.”

Bai Zhi nodded, looking at him with some worry, “Did it burn you?”

“The glass was empty.” Du Huai’an lowered his head and didn’t look at him, “I’m all right, you can go back.”

“Okay.” Bai Zhi turned around to leave after hearing what he said. Not long after, he ran back holding a plate of desserts and tea.

“When you’re tired of reading, eat something,” Bai Zhi spoke in a low voice, “I’ll bring it again for you when it’s gone.”

Du Huai’an closed his book, “These aren’t things you should do.”

“Yeah.” Bai Zhi retorted. In the end, he spoke again, “You can continue with your work.”

“Jiang Jiu.” Du Huai’an stood up, calling out to Bai Zhi who was about to leave.

“We still have time remaining together, today’s afternoon and the whole day tomorrow.”

Bai Zhi: “What’s wrong?”

“Then you, you don’t want to do anything?” Du Huai’an hinted to him.

“Do something……” Bai Zhi thought about it, “I know!”

After saying that, he immediately ran out of Du Huai’an’s sight in an instant. He shut the door with a ‘bang’.

Du Huai’an who was left in the same spot: “……?”

About half an hour later, Bai Zhi came back. A few snowflakes were on his head and his scarf covered up more than half of his face. Only his two, big, bright eyes could be seen for a while. He placed the lunch box he was carrying on the table, piling it up in front of Du Huai’an like he was presenting a treasure.

“It’s your lunch, I packed up what you like at the shop.”

“You…… What are you doing?” Du Huai’an was uncalm.

Bai Zhi actually had his usual appearance, “It’s lunch time.”

“Have you, yourself, eaten?”

Bai Zhi was afraid he was going to split half of the food with him, and promptly nodded, “I’ve eaten, I’ve eaten.”

Du Huai’an bowed his head and glanced down at the table, “The store ‘Yu Fu Ji’ is more than ten minutes away from here. You spent less than half an hour coming and going, and you’re telling me you’ve already eaten?”

Bai Zhi’s face did not change, “There was bread in the car.”

“How could you eat——”

“I’m already full!” Bai Zhi interrupted Du Huai’an’s words with a will to live that was through the roof. And afraid he didn’t believe him, he simply walked in front of him and stooped. He moved his head to the man’s neck, trying hard to issue a syllable.

“Hiccup.”1

In the end, he quietly asked, “Did you hear it? I hiccuped.”

Du Huai’an didn’t speak.

Bai Zhi saw this and approached even closer, issuing a sound again.

Du Huai’an still didn’t speak.

Du Huai’an took a large, woolen scarf. It was warm from basking in the sun all morning. Bai Zhi waited for a while without any reply, and was attracted by the scarf’s soft, warm touch. For a short while, he couldn’t resist and rubbed against the man’s scarf.

The man who was rubbed against, however, jumped up like he was electrocuted. Then, Bai Zhi was lifted by the neck and carried out of the balcony.

Bai Zhi, who was inexplicably thrown out, confusedly leaned against the glass balcony door. He seemed to be baffled at Du Huai’an’s actions.

Du Huai’an didn’t know what was wrong with himself. When Bai Zhi had leaned over just now, with a slight tilt of his head, he could see his long, delicate lashes, his soft hair, and also his face that seemed nice to the touch.

He had instinctively wanted to kiss and snuggle with him.

No, this feeling was wrong. Du Huai’an convinced himself, then he had found himself being rubbed against.

It somewhat tickled, but it seemed to tickle even more in his heart. The young man’s breath was close. Between Du Huai’an’s breaths, it had gotten into his head.

It was the smell of sunshine.

Du Huai’an’s breathing was a bit disorderly. Thus, he quick-wittedly got rid of the source of the scourge, locking up the balcony door.

Okay, okay, it’s good.

Du Huai’an calmly sat down, proceeding to pick up a book.

But someone had knocked on the balcony door. Bai Zhi, who was across the glass, opened up his mouth widely and said something to him. Du Huai’an took quite a while to identify his mouthing, he couldn’t understand what he was saying.

Bai Zhi stopped talking for a moment, wearing a somewhat lonely expression.

Du Huai’an was shocked. He hurriedly threw his book and ran over, then he saw Bai Zhi who was faced at the glass and breathing on it. He proceeded to sway his fingers, writing out crooked letters.

Don’t forget to eat.

Du Huai’an froze in place, he turned his head to look at the table. There lay the lunch that Bai Zhi had gone out into the snow to bring back.

The sunshine was still as bright and beautiful as always, it was brilliant.

Du Huai’an unconsciously carried a smile. He imitated a certain demon and breathed out, also slowly sliding his fingertips.

As you wish.2

Bai Zhi moved closer and took quite a while to identify his writing. A few minutes later, he foolishly raised his eyes to look at him. Du Huai’an’s heart was stirred, he lifted his hand and wrote the letters backwards.

Only then did Bai Zhi understand what he was reading, and he happily smiled in a split second. He nodded and turned around to sit on the sofa. From time to time, he would secretly glance at Du Huai’an to see if he had eaten.

Du Huai’an understood that he looked normal on the surface, but inwardly, he had already exploded into pieces. He put on an act and flipped through his books for a few minutes, then he opened his lunch box to taste it. Occasionally, he would secretly raise his head, shooting glances at the little demon indoor. When he would run into Bai Zhi’s eyes, he would hurriedly bow his head. And as if nothing had happened, he would continue to eat.

After finishing his lunch, Du Huai’an tidied up. He continued to pick up his book, but his gaze unconsciously flew onto a certain someone.

He was still sitting very sensibly on the sofa, attentively watching TV.

Du Huai’an originally thought he was a bit foolish to choose this very childish means of staying at his home, but now, he thought, ‘How could liking watching Pig be childish?’

This is clearly childish innocence that has yet to vanish. His heart is pure, and his soul is good and honest.

Du Huai’an inwardly nodded. He placed the book vertically on the tabletop, continuing to look at a certain person.

Jiang Jiu’s eyes were very big and glistened. Jiang Jiu’s hair was very supple, he wanted to rub it. Jiang Jiu’s lips seemed very soft, kissing him would feel very good.

Du Huai’an gradually narrowed his eyes. He had suddenly found that this young master before his eyes had enough appeal to cause his heart to beat.

The sun had already gradually risen to its tallest point. Du Huai’an closed his book, he opened the door and walked into the living room, sitting besides Bai Zhi. The sound of a pig roaring was heard on the TV. Du Huai’an sat for a while, he reached out with his hand in a natural manner, kneading Bai Zhi’s neck.

“Isn’t your neck sore from watching TV all day?”

Bai Zhi raised his head at hearing what he said, and replied, “A little bit.”

“Lean on my arm, you’ll feel better.”

Du Huai’an suggested with his face the same as always.

Bai Zhi nimbly laid back, resting his head directly on Du Huai’an’s arm, “Thank you!”

“Don’t mention it.”

The corner of Du Huai’an’s mouth curled up, and he moved a little closer to Bai Zhi’s side. Then, he turned his head to look at the TV.

The two people stayed nestled on the sofa like that for the afternoon. Only when the sun set in the west and the dark yellow shone into the room did Bai Zhi stand up.

“It’s evening, I’m going to go home for dinner.” He tilted his head, looking straight at Du Huai’an.

“I want to make dinner for you, Du Huai’an.”

Du Huai’an followed after him and stood up, “For me?”

Bai Zhi nodded.

Du Huai’an thought about it, and said, “I’m going with you?”

“Yeah.” Bai Zhi immediately agreed.

Du Huai’an didn’t have any ingredients at home. The two people searched for a long time and only found three tomatoes and one egg.

“Scrambled eggs with tomato, do you like it?”

Du Huai’an nodded, picking up the knife to start cutting the tomatoes.

“Look at my slices, how do they look?”

Bai Zhi moved over, and very honestly shook his head, “It isn’t as good-looking as mine.”

After saying that, he sliced one, “Look at mine.”

“You cut it too small.” Du Huai’an stated, “Mine is still better-looking.”

“It’s you who cut it big.” Bai Zhi wasn’t convinced, “Mine looks better.”

The two looked face to face for a while, and Bai Zhi suddenly felt that something was wrong.

“Idiotic nephew, you actually dislike your big brother’s knife work.”

The system’s words rang out in his mind, Bai Zhi then suddenly reacted. Hold on, this was his elder brother!

“I think yours is still good-looking.”

“Okay, I admit yours is good-looking.”

Two voices simultaneously rang out. Bai Zhi raised his head in surprise, meeting a pair of equally surprised eyes.

MAKE SURE YOU’RE READING THIS ON https: //zennetls. wordpress. com/

  1. Uh, just to let you know, this is onomatopoeia.
  2. It can also be something like ‘aye aye’, ‘roger’, ‘you got it’.
  3. Spells ‘okay’ if you can’t tell. ^_^ (Also, the fact that DHA wrote it backwards so that BZ could read it without trouble. 😫.)

Zenne: Okay, so I did some research about 头牌 and I realised the way I tled it as ‘lead role’ wasn’t wrong but, in our context, it is wrong. Basically, it’s meant to be ‘No.1 host’ or something of the sort. 🤡 I feel like a clown rn. (It’s probs already been changed by the time you’re reading this lol.)

Also, Bai Zhi unintentionally grinded against Du Huai’an. AIN’T NO WAY BZ DIDN’T REALISE. 😭🤚 (Btw, this chapter is so sweet. Like, omg.)
